In this eye-opening episode of The Thyroidless Life, Dr. Rebecca Warren delves into the often overlooked, yet essential role of iron and ferritin in thyroid health. Whether you're living without a thyroid or struggling with thyroid imbalances, understanding your iron levels is pivotal. Dr. Warren’s personal journey with thyroid cancer and her dedication to sharing her knowledge sets the stage for a transformative discussion on how these key nutrients impact your well-being and thyroid function. This episode covers:

    - The crucial relationship between iron, ferritin, and thyroid hormones, and how deficiencies can mimic hypothyroid symptoms
    - The impact of iron on the conversion of T4 to T3, and its role in thyroid hormone production and transport
    - Common causes of iron deficiency and how they relate to thyroid health
    - Practical strategies for testing and optimizing iron levels, including dietary adjustments and supplementation
    - The importance of a complete wellness panel and why thyroid labs alone aren't enough

Dr. Warren also provides actionable advice on how to address iron deficiency, the significance of protein intake, and the best forms of iron supplementation. Plus, learn the optimal lab values for iron, TIBC, percent saturation, and ferritin, and how to interpret these numbers in the context of your thyroid health.

    166. Are we stressed from the unresolved dysfunction and PTSD of the years Covid changed so much?!?

    166. Are we stressed from the unresolved dysfunction and PTSD of the years Covid changed so much?!?

Does back to school and fall schedules have you stressed out?

OR what if you feel stressed and can't manage your emotions and even hormone balance and metabolic health because we are still in the after math emotionallly, mentally and physically from Covid?!

I listened to a fantastic podcast with Rebekah Lyons (@rebekahlyons on Instagram) and it made SO much sense!

Because we did not handle the trauma of the Covid pandemic like we have handled other difficult events in the past, we are not rebounding the ways we should have.

These Covid years have impacted our kids in ways that we won't fully see until generations in the future!

I hope this episode helps you feel seen and understand that some of your health... mental and physical might still be lingering from the collective trauma we all endured together.

The Science of Healthy Hair, Hair Loss and How to Regrow Hair

The Science of Healthy Hair, Hair Loss and How to Regrow Hair
In this episode, I explain the biology of hair, hair growth, why hair growth slows and what causes hair to stop growing and/or “fall out.” I discuss the essential role of hair stem cells and other supporting biological factors for healthy hair growth. Then I describe various approaches (mechanical and chemical) to slow hair loss by increasing blood flow to hair stem cells, including minoxidil, tadalafil, PRP, microneedling, Botox and ketoconazole treatments. I also discuss how age-related hormone changes cause hair loss and explain the effectiveness of treatments such as caffeine, saw palmetto, growth hormone, finasteride and dutasteride. For all hair growth options, I describe potential side effects, how soon to expect results and the amount of hair regrowth to expect and I highlight effective combination treatments for hair regrowth even in hair “dead” (bald) zones. For many listeners, thinning, brittle hair, or pattern baldness are a source of anxiety and stress. This episode explains the mechanisms underlying hair regrowth tools and the science behind them so that you can evaluate potential treatments and associated side-effect profiles and select the best one(s) for you. Episode 3. Hailey Asmus - moving to a big school, life on the ranch and living with Alopecia Areata

Hailey is 14 years old and recently she has been living a life that seems like it came right out of a movie I once watched when I as her age. Her family moved from California to a ranch in a small town in Arizona during the pandemic to look after her grandpa. (she now looks after Llamas, Alpacas, bunnies and goats) As an introvert with three very extroverted younger siblings and two very extroverted parents Hailey is challenged every day to find her on way and time to be her. And just for more fun Hailey has aggressive Alopecia Areata - she looses her hair like me - and just started at a big new school where she has to tell that story and deal with all the questions all over again. She is such an incredible young woman - I am so proud to call her a friend.

The Emotional Toll of Hair Loss That Nobody Talks About!

The Emotional Toll of Hair Loss That Nobody Talks About!
Hair loss is a deeply personal issue and for those struggling with it you can become obsessed and envious with other peoples hair. Why does hair loss causes so much anxiety?

Yes, it's "just" your hair, which is not a big deal when compared with other health issues that people deal with. But hair loss is not "just" a cosmetic issue, it can seriously impact your mental health.

And although hair thickness is not the only indicator of good health, when you're losing your hair, it can feel like you're also losing your identity.

In this episode we talk to an expert from Trichology Scotland and put your questions to him.
